Design 2483 Freedom
For anyone who follows this blog its clear there are quite a few motorsailers in the archives. I count over fifty designs of the type. Of the big ones, Freedom stands out as a special boat. Built of aluminum by Cantieri Navali Picchiotti of Viareggio, Italy she was launched in August of 1984.
She was designed and built for William E. Simon, former Secretary of the Treasury under Nixon. Simon was involved in every aspect of her design and pushed for performance above all else.
The boat is in perfect condition with numerous upgrades over the years. She is currently for sale. The asking price is $5.9m.
Here are the plans.
Here are a few interior and exterior images.
